Maton v Mwaura, Halladay v Roe highlight miles By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor Washington state champions Daniel Maton of Camas and James Mwaura of Lincoln (Tacoma) will go head to head Friday in the invitational mile at the Nike Jesuit Twilight Relays. Maton, a junior, is the reigning Class 4A WIAA champion in the 800 and 1,600 meters. He was second at Jesuit last year in 4:10.64. Mwaura, a senior, is the Class 3A champion in the 3,200. Mwaura recently ran 8:51.62 for third place in the 3,200 at the Arcadia Invitational. Topping the list for the girls mile, Annie Hill from Glacier MT, Lexy Halladay from Mountain View ID, Taylor Roe from Lake Stevens WA – all former Nike Elite campers – will take on top Oregonians Kelly Makin of Sunset OR, Madison Elsinore from South Eugene and Makenna Schumacher from Jesuit. The race features a rematch of the Roe-Halladay finish from 2017. Roe ran a PR 4:45.97 to beat Halladay, who ran 4:46.35 for second. Halladay went on to win the adidas Boost Boston Games mile with a nation-leading and freshman class record time of 4:41.80. Braden Lenzy of Tigard, a Notre Dame football recruit, is the top entrant in the boys elite 100 with a seed time of 10.62 seconds. Carter Kuehl of Mountain View ID, Charles Johnson of Cheney WA and Micah Williams from Benson Tech OR are all threats to win. In the girls elite 100, Aliyah Wilson of Tahoma is the favorite with a best time of 11.49 seconds. Anna Rodgers of Lewis & Clark WA and Elise Unruh-Thomas of South Eugene OR are the top challengers.
